I’ve been blessed
because I have had two babies who sleep like rockstars. Both girls, from about 5 weeks on, slept 12 hours a night. People always ask how we do it, there isn’t a magic potion or I would bottle that up and be rich. I think a lot of the credit goes to them, because they were both such laid back kids. I do have some tricks up my sleeve to share with you though!
Make their bed as inviting as possible.
We don’t co-sleep, ever. My kids are little maniacs in their sleep and if they are in bed with us then no one sleeps. I try to make their beds and comfy as possible. Nice soft sheets, blankets, and pillows. Also both girls sleep with a DockATot, they are obsessed, but more on that in a second. As for their bedding we have grown to really love us some organic sheets, not just because it says organic, but have you ever felt organic sheets? It’s like a soft cloud to snuggle into. Noelle’s are from Pottery Barn and Lennon’s are from my friend at Nogili. Her bedding is the softest most amazing thing I have ever felt, I wish I had it on my bed.
Invest in a DockATot
If you haven’t heard the word DockATot being muttered in the mommy world, it’s a breathable and versatile sleeping “dock” that you can take anywhere. Or maybe you have heard of it and saw the price tag and went running in the other direction. Let me tell you, as a seasoned mom of 2, this is one baby item that is 100% worth the splurge.
Lennon is currently sleeping with the Deluxe and Noelle with the Grand. The covers are removable os it makes cleaning so easy! We tried to take Lennon’s away, no way dude. She would not sleep and I could see her giving us dirty looks. Noelle has been using one since she turned 2, I wish I had known about them when she was a baby!
Keep it dark, like really dark.
My girls have rooms in the “basement” part of our house, so there isn’t a ton of light down there. I have learned that they truly sleep better when it’s dark and cool. In the few times I tried to get them to sleep upstairs they either A) wouldn’t sleeping B) only lasted 20 seconds. If your babes room has lots of natural light I suggest black out shades or curtains. Trust me it’s worth it!
Swaddle Swaddle Swaddle.
Guys! I am NO parenting expert but this is one thing that I want to scream in every new moms face! SWADDLE YOUR BABY!!!!!! I always hear ” my baby hates being swaddled”…no your baby doesn’t know yet what they hate and in fact tons and tons of research shows how calming and beneficial swaddling is, when done properly. Your baby is surely going to try and squirm out of it, thats basic instincts, but they will settle in. We recently started using Nested Bean Zen Sack, I wish I had found these when Lennon was still in a full swaddle. A super smart mama created these and they are weighed, giving baby the feeling like still have your hand on them. They also have a Zen Swaddle that you NEED if you have an smaller babe!
I have to sleep with a fan on, even in the dead of winter. There is something so soothing about that white noise and my girls love it too. They make tons of white nose machines or you can buy a small fan. It’s not only soothing but helps cancel out the chaos that is going on in the house while your sweet babes try to sleep. My girls have these little lambs and have always loved them.
So there you go, my tips and tricks. Sleeping babes is really a luck of the draw but I do believe that these tips help nudge them into that deep sleep you so desperately crave. What about you? Do you have any tricks to get those babes sleeping?
